Track recording mode

I have two questions concerning the track recording options
– no favorites/search/routing/settings menu while track recording on iPhone (5)
While track recording is active it is not possible to change settings search or use the favorites menu button on iPhone.
With iPad tis works perfectly but not with iPhone.
I would like to record a complete tour without always switching of the recording when i need to search a place or change a setting.
– no track recording when following a route with the play button

Both of these issues mean there is no real track recording in the backround which i like to have always when doing a bike tour or walking around….
