A number of our users have reported these issues with v2.0. We have already fixed it and are waiting for Apple to approve a hot-fix update v2.0.1. In the meantime there is a work-around to correct the major issues:
FIRST: Do an in-app data update (Settings > Manage Data > Check for Updates) and wait for it to complete! Try to avoid using the app while its updating. Just let it sit there until its finished.SECOND: After its completed do the following to force close the app (the next time you open the app it should be functioning properly):iOS 5 or iOS 6:1> If you are in an app already, close it by tapping the Home button once.2> Double tap the home button on your device so that the multi-tasking app bar appears.3> Press and hold on one of the icons in it until they wiggle.4> A small red minus symbol appears of the icons. Tap it on Pocket Earth.iOS 7:1> If you are in an app already, close it by tapping the Home button once.2> Double tap the home button on your device so that the multi-tasking app screen appears.3> Locate Pocket Earth and swipe up to drag it off the screen.THIRD: The next time you open the app it should be functioning properly, if not try powering off your device, and powering it back on. Finally, if Pocket Earth did crash somewhere during the downloads, it may have become confused about what maps are already downloaded and which still need to be downloaded. You can correct this and make sure everything is downloaded by going to My Maps, and for each item you wanted offline, tap the Trash icon then tap the Download icon. Tapping the Trash icon does not immediately delete the maps, and tapping the Download shortly after will simply cause Pocket Earth to rescan for any potentially missing map files. We recommend letting each item complete before moving to the next item. Doing this for multiple items at once increase the chance that Pocket Earth will crash again. Finally, let us say we are very sorry for any inconvenience caused! It happens sometimes that a tiny mistake can cause catastrophic results. We are a very small team and have worked hard for the last 8 months to produce this update. We tested our app as thoroughly as we reasonably could but unfortunately we didn’t catch this issue before release. We have now corrected it and are waiting for Apple to approve the fix. We will be looking forward to your feedback on this major release and there will surely be refinements to come. You can expect a v2.1 update in a few weeks based on your feedback!Moving forward we will be working on offline address search, internationalizing the All Maps list and Topographic maps. Your feedback is essential in defining the direction of our app so get involved and let us know what is important to you!One last thing! Pocket Earth is an extremely low margin product and we barely make any money on it! We basically work on it because we enjoy traveling and great maps as much as you do! Your positive App Store reviews and support on Facebook is essential in allowing us to continue this work! We hope you will continue to support us moving forward!April 9, 2014 at 7:06 pm #5482UPDATE: Apple has approved our 2.0.1 hot-fix update. It is recommended for all users. If you get 2.0.1 then you shouldn’t need to follow the above procedure.
When launching 2.0.1 for first time you *may* see the Setup Wizard which will quickly download any required data which was missing. After the Setup Wizard is complete everything should be back to normal and you shouldn’t experience any more crashes! If maps for offline places need update in order for them to work offline again, they will begin downloading automatically (as long as you are not in Offline mode). Please switch the Network Mode setting to Online or WiFi Only and wait 10 seconds to see if such downloads are needed and have started.Sorry again for any inconvenience caused and let us know if you run into any other troubles! Post on our forum or email us directly. -
