Although we use one of the fastest and most reliable hosting services available, there was an incident recently which caused a loss of some data. We are still working with the provider to understand and avoid this issue in the future, but we have corrected the immediate problem. Please go to Settings > Data Cache > Check for Updates to get the latest and complete maps data. Note this will cause a full download of all maps and other data needed for all cities, regions, countries, routes & tracks that you have marked with a green (or yellow) star. It is recommended you do this while on a WiFi connection. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused!
Okay, so you propose making the gray „establishing GPS connection“ button Yellow for example and the blue „GPS activated“ state green?
Great! Glad you like the app.
You can show your support by posting a review on the App Store and/or Liking our Facebook page!
Exit Numbers are displayed already in PocketEarth, where such data is available. They appear over the highways in a blue and white text. Our datasource is OpenStreetMap.org a great community driven open mapping project with more than half a million people contributing to it. If you find there are missing Exit numbers, you can help out by adding some of them in your area via the OSM website.Best Regards@nounours, we actually managed to get the entire OSM planet data down to just 7.5GB, however, for performance reasons, we increased the size to 12GB for PocketEarth.
@MikeB, this is one of the many enhancements that will be in our next app update (expected beginning of Oct). It will be built-in and not require internet or special downloads. Downloading maps for any city, region, or country will include all public transit info and it will only increase map download size by 2.5%
„Id“ is a an HTML5 OSM editor that can be used from any browser (hopefully mobile too but not sure). Just go to OSM website, and click on the side of the Edit link on the arrow right side, it will give you options of Potlach and Id.
The new HTML based „Id“ OSM editor is very cool, and easier to use than Potlach in my opinion.
There is the Go Map! app for editing arbitrary OSM data on the iPhone/iPad, though I have not gotten a chance to try it out yet.Sounds like an OSM tagging issue. If you want to correct them, you can go to openstreetmap.org find the area on the map, and then tap the Edit button. This link explains the tagging convention for path in detail, but in brief its:
highway=footpath for a dedicated foot path (bicycle=yes may be added if bicycle is permitted on it)highway=cyclepath for a dedicated cycle pathIn case it wasn’t clear:• Foot paths are shown in PE as a red dotted line (short dots).• Cycle paths are shown as a blue dotted line (short dots).• Fine black dotted lines (long dashes) and dark orange dotted lines (long dots or alternating long and short dots) are various kinds of trails, mainly for hiking.• Purple dotted lines are regional/local admin boundaries. These can be turned off in Settings > Map Layers > Subnational Admin Boundaries in case you find these confusing.Yes, you are right, this is a limitation of the 3rd party routing service we use. It assumes OSM tagged footpaths are illegal to use by bicycle so it isn’t routing through them. This is probably the correct assumption actually, and if bicycle is allowed, it should be tagged as such. That said, it would be nice if the routing engine was more configurable in these regards.
August 17, 2013 um 4:44 am Uhr als Antwort auf: Link to GoMap! App for GPS track uploading to OSM #5063None come to mind as I have never looked for such apps, but this page on OSM (scroll to bottom) seems to list 2 apps for iOS capable of upload: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Upload_GPS_tracks
Unfortunately we haven’t yet published a map legend, though we intend to provide one in the near future. I’d recommend looking the map key on the openstreetmap.org website. While not identical, it is very similar to our map style. Just tap the ‚i‘ button on the right side of the map.
If you still have any questions about specific ones, let me know!August 15, 2013 um 7:12 am Uhr als Antwort auf: Some areas have less detail than OpenStreetMap.org #5039In general, PocketEarth should show all data that is shown on the OSM website, often PE shows even more.
At some zoom levels however, PE shows less detail. Since we are rendering the maps on the device, this is done for performance reasons. The next update will improve this situations slightly, by showing minor roads and building starting from a lower zoom level. Is this what you are seeing or do you find details on OSM that are missing from PocketEarth even when zoomed in?August 15, 2013 um 7:03 am Uhr als Antwort auf: Link to GoMap! App for GPS track uploading to OSM #5038PocketEarth will offer to open a GPX export into any other app that claims to support it. I have no idea why a podcast app would claim such support. A photo app I could imagine can make use of a GPX track to correlate photos with it.
Anyway, Go Map! doesn’t show in the list because it appears to not support GPX file imports. It looks like a feature request for this has already been filed with them: https://github.com/bryceco/GoMap/issues/45We are working on a big update now to be released end of September or beginning October to correspond with Apple’s release of iOS 7. This update will include Japanese and asian font support, public transit highlighting, iOS 7 support, and big changes to help make the app easier to use and easier to learn.
After this update, I think the following one will be focused on topographic maps, gps track recording functionality, and waypoint navigation including pin/waypoint alarms entering or exiting a zone around them as you have suggested.Defining polygonal areas on the map is something we would probably do later on. We would also like this ability to be able to define and download maps for any custom user defined area.We are thinking to try limited public beta testing for the next release. If you’re interested, I will let you know when we are ready for this.
Not an update problem, just more unsupported formats. The first article wasn’t supported, the second one is already (in the WikiML code for the article).
I will add support for this format in the next wikipedia update in a few weeks..August 5, 2013 um 3:50 pm Uhr als Antwort auf: Showing all search result within a category on the map #5009Agreed this would be very useful! Being able to return to the last search quickly would also be helpful. I will see if we can get these into the next release (but no promises at this point ;).
We have had some requests for this already and are interested to do it, however, it is likely a lot of work and we have too many higher priority things at the moment. Aside from the fact that OpenSeaMap uses more than 300 custom icons which we would probably have to reproduce and then integrate, we would also have to build support for drawing these arcs from the beacons and lighthouses.
After we get the next big release out, we are planning to work on topographic maps and the track recording/waypoint functions. We can look more then at the feasibility of doing marine maps. Its looking like first iteration of public transit in PocketEarth will be highlights only and not a map layer as we have run into some technical difficulties doing it as a layer (but we will continue to work on that).
Here are some preview screenshots.Wikipedia has now been updated to the latest material in all supported languages. ‚Settings > Data Cache > Check for Updates‘ to get the update. We have also added numerous missing articles in German, Dutch, and Russian.
