August 3, 2013 um 8:52 am Uhr als Antwort auf: Importing as Single Track by default + Dutch translation #5003
Thanks for letting us know about the mistake in Dutch. I agree that the Single Track option should be ON by default. It used to be actually, not sure how that default got changed. Anyway, we will change it in our next update.
Thanks for pointing this out. Looks like we missed one of the German Wikipedia coordinate encodings, we will add support for it and update the data in the next few days.
There are some technical difficulties in offering more languages, basically each language has 1 to 5 different ways to encode the article locations and we have to specially build parsers for each of them. Our next app update, however, will include wikipedia in all 7 languages that our app currently supports (English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Czech, Russian). We can probably add Italian as well, but the update probably won’t be ready until the beginning of October.
Well, PocketEarth is smart enough to never download the same data twice, but your right it does report via the download panel that it is downloading overlapping maps.
I think in the next app update we will change this so it gives a single download progress saying „Updating Maps“, and not give the details about individual destination and route/track map downloads, nor the popup messages when each one has finished. This seems like it would be less confusing, less annoying, and easier to see at a glance how much of the total update has been downloaded already. Thanks for the feedback!Unfortunately, Apple does not include GPS hardware in the WiFi Only models so it is only able to give you an estimate of your location when there are WiFi hotspots near by you. One option is to purchase an iPad compatible external GPS device.
The latest map data from the OSM project is now available for download! Just goto ‚Settings > Data Cache > Check for Updates‘ to get it.
Sorry for the very slow response. Are you still having this issue? Do you have a WiFi Only iPad model?
Sorry about this, it will be corrected in our next update!
The built in Help Manual (Settings > Help) does work offline, however if you want it in paper form or in PDF, you can print it directly from our website. Most web browsers have an option to print to PDF rather than to a printer. Let me know if that works for you, otherwise I can provide it.
We are still working on this, it is purely due to (some serious) technical issues that came up as the OSM data has increased past a certain size. We hope to have the latest map data available in the next week or so, and will be providing monthly updates again from that point.
Thanks for the feedback! Though we plan to provide monthly updates for free, we will consider a small subscription fee for the future in order to provide weekly updates or so that we can lower the base cost of the app. Thanks for the report, we are looking into it and will let you know!
We are aware of this issue. It has to do with our approach to processing the articles, which we have decided is somewhat flawed. We are redesigning this process from scratch, but it may still be a few months before it is finished and corrected. BTW, we are planning to bring images (optional), more article content, and more languages with this redesign as well.
Yea, we are being attacked by spammers 🙁
We’ve installed 2 different anti-spam plugins but some is still getting through and is being manually deleted by us. We are still considering how best to handle the situation, but don’t want to divert too much of our time for it right now as we are still trying to correct two high priority issues: out of date map data, and the lack of asian font support.Tap the currently selected tab to deselect it. This will return you to the ‚All Favorites‘ view.
Juni 18, 2013 um 4:52 pm Uhr als Antwort auf: Pocket Earth unable to update from OSM for a couple months #4768Sorry about this. Our conversion process is broken currently. As soon as it gets fixed we will do an update.
Our update process is currently broken. As soon as it is fixed we will push an update. Otherwise we try to update the maps at least every month.
Cool thanks for the heads up!
The supported CSV format described above hasn’t changed since v1.4. We will try to keep you „posted“ when / if format changes happen.
Thank you all for your support. Don’t forget to spread the word! 🙂
You can already download all maps (including all zoom levels) of any country and many regions/cities. Just find the country/region/city in the destinations list and tap the star icon to save it as a favorite. At this point you will be asked if you want to download the maps for the place.
