Duplicate and unknown favorites suddenly

I notice today on my iPhone I now have three of every one of my favorites. On my iPad I suddenly have a lot of new ones, all with the creation date of December 3. Many, many, perhaps hundreds. How can I fix this? Can I export the list to a text editor and then re-import it?
