I have had this too and reported it as a bug. I think it had something to do with the map source and was out of the control of PE, but my memory may well be incorrect….
January 16, 2023 at 10:54 am in reply to: Topographical maps missing contour information in some areas #47212Back again. I can zoom in with no problems on my iPhone 8 (iOS 16.2) but I get the same problem you are experiencing on my old iPad Air 2 (iPadOS 15.7.2).
At a guess, I thought that to delete the topographical information, you may need to delete the Tasmania maps, but on trying that, and reinstalling Tasmania, brought up the topographical information automatically. Even an iPhone soft reset did not help.
I have tried my idea of contacting the other moderators, so hopefully someone will provide you with a solution.
Enjoy Tasmania, to which I have not visited so far, although I have been to other areas of Aus.
January 16, 2023 at 8:52 am in reply to: Topographical maps missing contour information in some areas #47210Thanks for examples. I will see if I can reproduce the problem on my iPhone and iPad. That at least may help decide whether it is a common problem.
(BTW I am only a user and nothing to do with the product itself. The moderators are/were generally those who beta tested pre-releases, of which there has not been a beta for a while. I am trying to think of a way to contact other moderators as we have no inter private message link…. )
Thanks for your reply GregE. No idea except what I expect that you have tried, which is to make the tracks different colours.
January 15, 2023 at 8:34 am in reply to: Topographical maps missing contour information in some areas #47195Not sure what to suggest, but do you have an example location users could look at? Does it change at different zoom levels?
Select a track in favourites.
Look for Hide when not selected and slide left to turn off.In Settings, GPS & Compass, scroll down and look for Track Auto Hidden. Sliding right on this will auto hide tracks when not selected to be shown on the screen.
I hope that this helps you. Sadly massive spam being posted often submerges questions🙁
Good morning BuckyE. I hadn’t looked at the PE forum this morning. I see what you mean about the spam – 50 pages of rubbish posts. It must be very disheartening for the PE developers, etc.
Good news that your PE is back working again and that you are back on track/route. Offline maps can take ages to download. I used to have quite a collection until I realised how much space they were taking. Hence I tried to limit myself, within reason, to the ones I needed.
Good morningmBuckyE. I didn’t elaborate on the soft reset method as it varies between models. Sad to hear that it did not resolve your problem, but it is always a good start.
I have no idea what you will lose, although when you uninstall you may be asked whether you want to keep your data files or not. I have had that on other apps, but do not know for sure of PE.
Downloading you maps should be straightforward. Just go to the menu ‘import’.
As the PE forum has restarted, I wonder if there will be an update sometime soon? As I do my updates on both iPhone and iPad manually, I see that there have been no end of apps being updated with the system updates. I haven’t, though, spotted any problems with PE recently. If you haven’t deleted your existing copy of PE and an update for PE comes along, simply installing the update may keep all your existing files in place – but then it may be the cause of your problems is within those files….
This is an advert and seemingly nothing to do with PE
‘ Are you looking for a pool construction company in Huelva?
Request a quote now without commitment, our team of professionals will help you.’A soft reset of iPhone/iPad is often the answer. Are you using a beta version? In which case the beta will not work at present as I think the authors need to re-enable it.
Thanks for the above Kritou; a facility I had not discovered. When not out walking, I do a lot of reading and I have often wondered out of curiosity, but never found the solution, to turning the page by voice. Solved in one simple explanation plus a lot more!
I can get it to work on my iPhone 8, ios 14.2, PE 3.7.3
It may be something corrected in ios 14.2 as there are, or have been, a few mail bugs in ios including 14.1
Go to the top of the main menu, where you can switch between Standard, Hiking, Sailing, etc. Tap on e.g. Standard, where it says Tap to Configure. Auto Waypoints is at the top of the list, under Options, with POI underneath.
For those who have not come across it before, an example:
The Eiffel Tower is at 48.85871° N, 2.29447° E
Alternatively it is at spark.tulip.visionsGreat idea. Perhaps, while more complex, start the recording when the gps senses motion sbove a specified speed? I.e. When you start your walk, drive, etc.
Thanks for the explanation. I wondered how that worked and it is another really useful PE facility.
Further to my crash note above, I have been using PE over the last few days and no further lock ups. Hence I assume that it was just a glitch.
A crash here, too on my iPad Air 2 with 8.4. Pocket Earth Pro 2.8. Went to look at Natters, Austria. Found it, then closed the ‘Route-Track’ side bar and I had a complete lockup and had to power off and restart the iPad. Note that the Austrian Map had already been saved in the iPad.
Thanks, Geomagick. That certainly improves matters.
