PocketEarth v1.6 is now available and includes a DM.mm wheel entry mode.
May 23, 2013 at 4:23 am in reply to: The option to one-touch saving of all info from an imported Archive file #4711Good suggestion! We will try to include a method for more quickly choosing areas which should have their maps downloaded after import! We’ll also consider your point about items loosing their group association when re-starring them.
For the time being, you can at least avoid having routes/tracks/dests loose their group association: Instead of un-starring & re-starring them in order to download the maps, just go into the detail screen (blue arrow to right of the item in the Favorites or Groups list), and then click the blue download button next to the item that says Maps. The on-screen compass is meant to be like a real compass. That is, it does not correspond to the map view shown, but rather points the real direction of north. This is for convenience so you don’t have to switch back and forth between PocketEarth and the Compass app. If it is not correctly pointing to north, then most likely the compass needs calibration (by waiving your device in the funny figure 8 motion that Apple recommends).
The GPS arrow also by default uses the compass to show you the direction on the map that your device is pointing. In PocketEarth v1.6 you can now change this to instead show the direction of motion by going to Settings > Advanced > GPS Arrow and changing it to Heading.May 23, 2013 at 4:13 am in reply to: Cannot selection the last entry on the Favorite list during Routing #4709We have just released PocketEarth v1.6 update which corrects this issue! But thanks for the report!
We have just released PocketEarth v1.6 update and believe it will resolve this issue! If you find it does not, please let us know and we will investigate the issue further.
This is possible! Just go to the Detail screen for the route or track and there is an item called Maps, it will tell you the download/cache status of the maps for the route/track, and if it is not downloaded already, it will show a blue download button to the right of it.
See attached screenshots for reference.PocketEarth v1.6 update have been approved by Apple and is now available for update!
@XOMTOR: v1.6 allows the memory used by the Settings screen to be reclaiming in low memory situations. Hopefully this will help a little, but we will need to do more work to completely correct the situation you reported. Due to the intricacies involved in memory management we couldn’t offer more improvements in this quick update, but wanted to let you know that we are taking your report seriously and will continue to work on it.Thanks for the report! We are aware of the weblink issue in v1.5, this has been corrected in v1.6 due out in a few days.
However, we are not aware of any issues with the PE Links. Well the links did change slightly in v1.5 and a PE Link shared from PocketEarth v1.5 and opened on another device running an older version may not work. If this isn’t the case here, please forward one of the share emails to us at info@geomagik.com so we can investigate. Thanks!@Aldwin, sorry I forgot to post back on this thread. The new in-app data update available with PocketEarth v1.5 greatly improved this situation by showing the missing streets (but not showing the dotted administrative boundaries). We are still working on a solution to show both.
May 21, 2013 at 5:53 am in reply to: Request: Recording routes even when in background or sleep mode. #4700In the current version, if you have gotten the latest in-app data update, this situation is at least improved. Namely, that it will show the much more important roads rather than the admin boundary. We are still working on a really solution, however, to show both at same time.
Sorry, ignore my last comment/question. That is pretty obvious and everything about this looks correct and it should be working. We are looking into the issue further, and will let you know when we have more info.
The next update will also have a Group Detail screen with a more obvious Delete button on it.
It will also give the options to delete only the group or both the group and all items in it.Thanks for sending the screenshots! They seem to show that you are driving from somewhere near Edinburgh to somewhere near Oban. Is that correct or are you trying to drive the opposite direction?
Sorry to hear this! This is the only report we have gotten of this issue, and are not sure immediately what could be wrong. If its not too much trouble, could you send us 2 screenshots to help us better understand the situation:
1> Screenshot of this error message with the map zoomed in and showing your current location on or close to the route path.2> Screenshot zoomed out enough to show the entire route path. You can take a screenshot easily by pressing both the Home button and the Power button at the same time (the screen will flash white & make a camera sound to let you know it was taken). The screenshots will be saved in your Camera Roll in Photos. You can then email these images to us at info@geomagik.com or post them to this forum thread. Thanks and sorry again!May 20, 2013 at 1:36 am in reply to: Request: Recording routes even when in background or sleep mode. #4690Sorry to hear that! PocketEarth does allow automatic BG track recording, however, there was a bug in v1.5 that could cause it to crash when recording in the BG. We are submitting a new update to Apple today that will correct this issue and a number of other bugs that were present in v1.5.
Sorry again for the inconvenience, the new update should available in 1 week!@Ozgeo: Sorry for the delay, we are hoping to submit the update to Apple tomorrow. They usually take 1 week to approve.
In addition to the bug and crash fixes, this version v1.6 will include a few other minor enhancements:• New group details screen with ability to export the group to GPX and ‘PocketEarth Archive’ formats.• Export individual routes and tracks to ‘PocketEarth Archive’ format.• Long press on a group in your favorites list to view it on the map.• Long press on destinations in the Destinations Search screen for additional options/shortcuts.• Allow rename of Fav POI.• Easier to read GPS info bar.• Swipe over main buttons to show bigger GPS info anytime (iPhone only; when GPS is active).• Improved compass smoothing and current location indicator arrow positioning.ahh OK your right.. I kind of forgot we were showing decimal precision with DM format. So ignore my earlier suggestions. And we will be including wheel entry for DM format with 2 digits of precision (I think thats the most that can fit on iPhone screen with the wheels interface).
Best RegardsI mean that DM coords are same as DMS except without the Seconds. You can enter DM coords simply by setting the value of the 3rd wheel to 0′ as shown in the attached screenshot.
Or maybe you meant DM.mm format where the Minutes are entered with a decimal and 2 digits of precision? If so, we are working to add this in one of our coming updates..Your right, we are using data from geonames.org to build our Destinations DB and excludes islands and small towns. Also as to not require a lot of extra data for exact administrative boundaries for cities, etc PocketEarth is not always able to give the correct town name, sometimes picking a bigger city nearby. Using geonames data also has other downsides such as not correctly localizing place names to the user’s language.
We are working to replace our Destinations DB with information straight from OSM which will correct all of these issues!@rainforest1155: We do include the website and phone tags for all POI that have them. For example clicking around central Paris, I see them on a lot of museums and theaters. Unfortunately there are not a lot of POI that have been tagged with these, only about 150,000 with phone and 200,000 with website. ‘opening_hours’ and ‘collection_times’ we are not currently including, though I think we could add them in our next update.
